Stressed out with GPA

When I see my GPA, my emotions start to twist, whether it’s a good or bad GPA, the lower numbers makes my anxiety spread. When I see a lower GPA, it brings me down and I start to get on myself and think ‘why am I such a bad student?’ It then stresses me out and I can’t think straight, because all I can think about is how low my GPA is. I believe it would be much easier on students and parents if we didn’t have to know our GPA until the end of the semester.
Your GPA is your grade point average and tells you how well you are doing in your classes all together. GPA’s were put in place to document how good of a student you are. But know in days, some people slack on the homework but know the material or know the material but don’t score so well on the test, which goes to show; is your GPA really an accurate representation on how well you do?
Recently there has been more discussion that being able to see your GPA, might be causing more stress among high school students. Ashlenn Tanner, a student at Kennedy high school states, “Seeing my GPA makes me more anxious, because I don’t know if I’m doing well.” She also stated that, not being able to see her GPA would affect her negatively too.
There are a few students who don’t even look at their GPA and just don’t pay attention to their grades. “If I wanted to know how well I’m doing as a student, I’d look at my grades.” Joy Finly, sophomore at Kennedy high school shared. “My parents look at them, and start yelling when they see my GPA, and don’t focus on my grades. Which are not half bad.” Finly also stated. Seeing your GPA at the end of the semester would be more beneficial. You can see how well you did for the semester and not have to worry about it changing.

  2. I think it would be more beneficial to the students if they dont see their GPA by the end of the semester. I personally dont think my GPA is a good representation of my grades, even though my grade arent that great I think my GPA should be a little higher.

Synthesis and Reflection

Media Law A new concept for me would be learning what libel and slander was. I always knew slander as "gossiping" and never imagined it as an actual thing people have to look out for. I have already noticed changes in what I'm hearing and figuring out what's slander and what's not. For example Dec. 4, 2018 a rumor went around the school that we were going to have to make a non snow day up. Well later I found out somebody had just made that up and was spreading fake news . I didn't think of it as gossiping anymore, I thought of slander. Libel was different, I always thought of libel as "fake news" and figured they were the same thing. Now I'm aware that a lot of things can be fake news not just written things. Libel is a little more tricky to find because you actually have to search for it. Unlike slander where you could say, "We have a full day of school on Friday," and many people would believe you. I now have to be cautious with th...
