“My mom and
dad, they almost turned me into the cops,” Maureen McCormick shares about her
struggle with addiction. McCormick is best known for starring on the famous tv
show “Brady Bunch” as Marica Brady and later for appearing on the show “Dancing
with the Stars”.
“I started
messing up on jobs and so many things.” McCormick said. McCormick had been
struggling with addiction for years, it got so bad that she ended up trading
sex for drugs with a cocaine dealer in Hollywood. She had understood she’d been
struggling with addiction for a while, but what really convinced her to act on
it was her, now husband, Michael Cumming, where he told her that if she ever
did drugs again he would leave her.
“It woke me
up,” McCormick said and acted on it. Cumming and McCormick have now been
married for thirty-three years. McCormick has been sober ever since. In 2017
she joined the American Heart
Association’s (AHA) Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection to support her “TV
mom” Florence Henderson, who passed away from heart failure in 2016.
Addiction is a huge problem that needs to be treated in a certain way. A large problem is that drugs they use being illegal discourages them from getting help, because they'll either get a huge fine or be thrown in jail.
ReplyDeleteWe should encourage people to go to addiction treatment centers without fear of legal problems.
Here in CR we have major opioid addiction problems. I wonder how this is managed by local law enforcement and heath care facilities so people can get the help they need.
DeleteVery well written! You really addressed a worldwide problem! Your quotes were really good. And it flowed very well... Very good job!
ReplyDeleteYou gave a nice snapshot summary, but how did you feel about it? Did you buy into it? Did they leave any interesting information out you would have wanted to know? What about the connection between celebrity and addition? Hm. Keep going!
ReplyDeleteVery good quotes! I would've liked to see more details about the start of her addiction and you're opinion on drugs and the whole situation.
ReplyDeleteYour article is a very good summary of another and detailed the issues with addiction but it felt like you left out a response in it which could have been a great opportunity with this type of article where the issue is wide spread.
ReplyDeleteGood job making the article flow all the way through. I would suggest maybe adding more to the article and more detail about her addiction.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading this, but i think you could have added more detail. This made a good opening into celebrity addiction if you wanted it to go there.
